Characters face

For the characters face, I gathered images of different masks and faces which I felt were relevant to the design and feel of what we might want. My very first thought when it came to the characters face was the mask of the Dragon Priests in Skyrim (top left of mood board). I also looked at statues as we thought the character being created around a statue or carving would be an interesting narrative point for our game. From this, I looked at carious golem faces, carvings, and statues. I also had a brief look into cyborg and mechanical faces as I felt they may have some impact. And finally, the Spiderman images as a few of us felt that the sweeping style of the eyes used in Spiderman could influence our design.

From the mood board, I applied different design elements to create these faces. We decided upon the character being created from a religious statue, so working with that in mind, I created a face which played upon that theme. I started with a very simple shape, and created the face in a minimalistic way, so that there were basic recognizable features, but not trying to look like a person. I feel that the design of the mask was most heavily inspired by Spiderman (the sweeping area around the eyes), the Skyrim masks (the way it is carved into) and old statues for the texture. I also made wooden options playing on the idea that the character could be created around a carving.

After creating the face, I moved onto finalising the character design, including the face and a completed version of what was designed from the iterations. (continued in the next post)
