Worms? Wyrms? Things?

In our game idea, we had giant flying worms, but as the story progressed and we advanced though our design process, we found that magic flying worms was a little out from what our game wanted, so we changed it to wyrms. Wyrms classically being a type of dragon, I thought it might work better, changing them to our own thing out of mythological creature conventions. I went down the path of if they are these things which are kind of dragon based, why not make them eastern dragons. However, we also wanted to keep a very innocent, placid feel to them, so with this in mind, I came up with some silhouettes for the wyrms.

I went across several tangents when creating the silhouettes, starting with the basic worm, then went more abstract. I began to think of manta rays, which inspired the boomerang shape. However, I didn't want it to just magically fly, so I thought about wings, and added featherless bird wings. I wanted to change the rear as well, having it taper off looked a little suspect, so I added a bit to the end, similar to the end of a lion tail.

I then created a colour image concept of how I envisioned it, I send this to MIkey (blog linked below*) who then refined the idea and redesigned them to fit more with the environments he had designed.
