Appeal.

Appeal is more to do with the design of the character and how well  they draw us in to the character. Appeal can be compared to the charisma of an actor, and can be played upon in animation by making a character look a certain way so that the viewer/player will care about them. In many of today's games, you are able to customize and create your own character to play, which allows you to change the character into someone that appeals to each player personally.
