I had a cool idea a started playing around with, where the guard piece of the Queen's outfit could be a ceremonial shield with a sword hidden in it. I've drawn up some preliminary ideas for how this could look/work.
So i thought the shield could double as a shield and a sheath for the sword, as the piece is very long anyway. The only issue I have with this at the moment is I'm unsure whether Bronze Age Britains would have used kite shields, as that is what this looks like.
I also played around with blade shapes. From research I have previous found, I know during the Bronze Age they could smith leaf bladed swords, so i played with other shapes that would maybe be possible. I personally prefer the straight blade to the other ideas, and the wavy blade is a little before it's time, the Flamberg being a German sword from the 12-14th centuries predominantly.
At the same time as looking at blade shapes, i looked at sword lengths and handles. Of the handles, I prefer the middle too, as the left handle is a little too Japanese, and the right handle would just be impractical. The handle which looks a little like a bell (middle-right) is possibly edging my favourite, purely on the premise that practicality wise, a shape like that is used to hinder people through hitting pressure points. Although not related to the Bronze Age, a good example of this type of shape and use is with Japanese ninjas, who used rings and other items similar to punch pressure points, dropping enemies quick and effectively.
