This image is Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, artwork for Magic: The Gathering by Jason Chan.
From looking at the light in this picture, there are several ways in which light has been used in a realistic fashion to improve the overall dynamic of the image. Before assessing the ways in light has been used, it is important to know the light source, which in this image is very obviously behind the subject, piecing through the clouds. The first to note is the diffusion of the light around the subjects clothing. This is due to the clothing being more free flowing and a soft material, Jason Chan has used soft shading to help show this. Harder pieces of clothing such as the breastplate, shoulder plates, leather gloves and leather boots are all smoother, harder materials, so there is little to no diffusion on these areas, which also shows us that there is either no ground below her (she's flying) or she's close to what must be a black surface, as there is not reflection or light from below her, meaning there is little to no dynamic occlusion in this piece. And finally, the last major lighting effect in this piece is the refraction of light through the end feathers on her wings, this is clear from the lighting on the wings being much stronger towards the tips, and I also believe that in this area, there is also dynamic occlusion on these areas as there is strong colour relativity from the clouds.
