I have transposed the story of the tinderbox to the bronze age, making a few tweaks to suit the period more. I tried to keep it short but it didn't really happen, so here's the worlds longest short story synopsis :)

Synopsis Transposed.
Soldier was returning from war when approached by a witch who offered him wealth beyond reason if he could perform a task. She asked him to climb down a hollow tree, wherein he could take as much bronze, silver or gold as he desired (if he took it in a way she described using her apron). All she wanted in return was for him to find and return her grandmothers tinderbox. Soldier agreed and climbed in, and found the money guarded by guardians, increasingly great in stature and equipment. After taking as much gold as he could carry, he climbed out to be reminded of the tinderbox, so he climbed back in, retrieved the tinderbox and returned to the witch. Curiosity got the better of him and he demanded to know the reason he was sent on such a task for such a mundane item under pain of death. She refused to tell him the tinderbox’s significance, and in rage he took his axe and beheaded the witch, leaving with the gold AND her tinderbox. For a while, the soldier lived a life of riches, popularity and renown, until his friends had use him for all he was worth and he no longer had money. When that time came he returned to the tree and was once again popular and rich. With his seemingly unending wealth, he could afford all he could want, until one day he heard a tale of the King’s daughter. Rumour had it that the princess was beautiful beyond imagination, truly worthy of her title, yet a prophecy had said that she would marry a simple soldier. This prophecy was enough for the King to lock his daughter away in a tower of impenetrable rock, wood and metal, as well as the army of guards who protected the tower and the Monarch Fort. Soldier became increasingly obsessed with the idea of meeting Princess, when one day, Soldier used the witches tinderbox to light a fire in his home. To his amazement, there stood a Guardian of great stature, the same Guardian who had guarded the bronze in the tree, and he also found that the Guardian would do what he requested of them. Two sparks from the box would summon the Guardian of greater stature, and three sparks would summon the Guardian of the greatest stature. To test their ability, he requested that they bring him Princess. They left him and within an hour, returned with Princess, asleep in their arms. Upon seeing Princess he discovered that the rumours were in fact true, and her beauty was without competition. The more he looked upon her sleeping face, the harder he had to resist kissing her, but in the end, Soldier gave into temptation and kissed her before having her taken back to her tower. In the morning, Princess told King and Queen of a strange dream where she had been carried away at twilight and kissed a strange man. King thought nothing of it, but Queen was curious as to whether it truly was just a dream. Later that night, Queen ordered her most trusted Handmaiden to lookout for Princess at night and mark where she was taken. To Handmaidens surprise, she spotted Princess being carried away by a large man in her sleep. She followed to a large house in the town and marked the door with an X in sheep blood from the nearby farm. The Guardian of great stature saw this and quickly copied, painting X’s on all the doors in the town. Come morning, Handmaiden went to show Queen the door, when they found someone had painted more, so they couldn’t find the right house. Queen had a new idea, and that night, she approached her daughter while she slept, and tied a small bag of flour to her ankle, and cut a small hole in the bottom. In the morning, Queen took King and an escort of guard to the house the flour led to and Soldier was arrested. Whilst in jail, awaiting his death, a small boy walked passed and Soldier had a plan. He paid the boy three gold pieces to go to his house and bring him the tinderbox. The boy did so. In the evening, when the pyre had been built, they led him out into the centre of town. Moments before the pyre was lit by a torch, Soldier interrupted, and as his last dying wish, he requested to be able to light his own pyre with his own tinderbox. He was given permission, and after six sparks of his tinderbox, appeared three Guardians of increasingly great stature. Soldier ordered them to not let him die, so the three Guardians took out their axes of increasingly great size and started cleaving anyone who tried to enforce Soldiers death. Many townsfolk, King and Queen had all died before people yielded in fear and hailed Soldier as their new King. With this, Soldier now married Princess and they had a weeks’ worth of celebration and party. And that’s how we got Halloween.
